Today, we are pleased to announce that CNCF TOC has accepted Antrea as a sandbox project. This is an important milestone for Project Antrea, which has just released version 1.0. We are very honored to join other projects, such as Cloud Native Buildpacks, Contour, Harbor and so on. By donating Antrea to CNCF, we hope it will increase the visibility of the project, help bring in new contributors, and promote synergies with other projects hosted by CNCF.

Originally released in November 2019, Antrea [1] implemented the Container Network Interface (Container Network Interface,CNI) and Kubernetes network policy for running anywhere in the Kubernetes cluster. It is built on Open vSwitch (OVS), and Open vSwitch is an open source technology that optimizes distributed, multi-layer switching performance. Thanks to the highly scalable architecture in OVS, Project Antrea quickly added new features with contributions and interoperability support from the user and partner community.

Without the participation of the community through questions, pull requests, discussions, code, documentation, and many other contributions, Antrea would not have been where it is today. If you are not familiar with Antrea, now is the time to take a look. With the latest release of 1.0 [2], you can test the latest features and imagine new possibilities for the next version. The Antrea project team welcomes you to contribute some code and use it to test interoperability. In the coming months, we look forward to a heated discussion with new community members about the technical advantages of more features that will shape the future of Kubernetes's container network and network strategy.
