This article introduces you how to change the default terminal in Ubuntu, the content is very detailed, interested friends can refer to, hope to be helpful to you.

Change the default terminal in Ubuntu

In Debian-based distributions, there is a convenient command-line program called update-alternatives that can be used to handle default applications.

You can use it to change the default command line text editor, terminal, etc. To do this, run the following command:

Sudo update-alternatives-config x-terminal-emulator

It displays all terminal emulators that can be used as default values on the system. The current default terminal is marked with an asterisk.

Abhishek@nuc:~$ sudo update-alternatives-config x-terminal-emulator There are 2 choices for the alternative x-terminal-emulator (providing / usr/bin/x-terminal-emulator). Selection Path Priority Status--- 0 / usr/bin/gnome-terminal.wrapper 40 auto mode 1 / usr/bin/gnome-terminal .wrapper 40 manual mode* 2 / usr/bin/st 15 manual mode Press to keep the current choice [*] Or type selection number:

All you have to do is enter the selection number. For me, I want to use GNOME terminals instead of terminals from Regolith desktops.

Press to keep the current choice [*], or type selection number: 1update-alternatives: using / usr/bin/gnome-terminal.wrapper to provide / usr/bin/x-terminal-emulator (x-terminal-emulator) in manual mode

Automatic mode vs manual mode

You may have noticed the automatic mode and manual mode in the output of the update-alternatives command.

If you choose automatic mode, the system may automatically decide to apply by default when installing or removing packages. This decision is affected by priority numbers (as shown in the command output in the previous section).

Suppose you have five terminal emulators installed on your system and remove the default emulator. Now, your system will check which emulators are in automatic mode. If there is more than one, it selects the one with the highest priority as the default emulator.

On how to change the default terminal in Ubuntu to share here, I hope the above content can be of some help to you, you can learn more knowledge. If you think the article is good, you can share it for more people to see.
