­the much-anticipated Dark model is finally coming to Android phones. Google is expected to officially introduce this feature on the Android P system at the iCompact O conference to be held in May. Although there is currently no official commitment from Google, users of the Reddit community have noticed that the Google public problem tracker has marked the Dark pattern as "fixed".

­in late November, an Android user consulted Dark Mode/Night Mode on Google's problem tracking system and wrote:

­Dear Mr. / Ms,

­using the Dark Mode/Black screen on the OLED screen can greatly improve the battery life performance of the Android phone. You want to see Dark Mode or Night Theme under "Settings" in Android 9.0. Currently, you must install a third-party application to activate this Dark mode.

­this feature spread quickly among Google engineering teams, and in the next few hours an engineer wrote

­our engineering team has added this feature and will be available in future Android updates.

­what we have added in future version updates is a developer-oriented setting (through the developer option) to trigger the-night UI mode qualifier, which makes it easy for developers to create and test applications that deploy Night patterns. This qualifier is already available on the platform in Froyo (SDK 8) and can be adjusted globally through UiModeManager since Marshmallow (SDK 23). However, it is not possible to have a toggle switch in the setting options.
