Apple announced today that during the period from Christmas 2015 to 2016, New Year's Day spent more than $1.1 billion on internal purchases of app and in-app, setting a record for traffic and purchases for two consecutive weeks. New Year's Day's total income reached an all-time high of $144 million in App Store history in 2016. This figure breaks the record for one-day income set on Christmas Day in 2015.

"App Store's revenue from this holiday can go down in history," said Philip Schiller, senior vice president of global marketing at Apple. "users downloaded all kinds of app on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and Apple TV, and spent more than $20 billion on App Store last year alone. I would like to thank the developers for this."

Since 2008, App Store worldwide has paid nearly $40 billion to developers, 1/3 of which came from last year.

Thanks to App Store's success, Apple has created and supported 1.9 million jobs in the United States alone. Of these, more than 3/4, more than 1.4 million, are app developer communities, software engineers and iOS app entrepreneurs, as well as positions that provide direct or indirect support to IT in the app economy.

Apple announced earlier that the iOS app economy has created 1.2 million jobs in Europe and 1.4 million jobs in China.

Games, social networking and entertainment are App Store's most popular categories of the year in the Apple product line. Many users challenge themselves through "Minecraft: Pocket Edition", "Trivia Crack" and "Heads Up!"; use "Facebook Messenger", "Wechat" and "Snapchat" to keep in touch with friends and family; among games and subscriptions app, the best sellers are "Tribal conflict", "Monster Marbles", "War Games: the Age of Fire", "Fantasy Journey to the West", "Netflix", "Hulu" and "Match".

Since its launch in October, Apple TV's most popular app includes Lehman: adventure, Beat Sports and HBONOW. Apple Watch users' favorite app include fitness app "Nike+ Running" and "Lifesum", as well as "iTranslate" and "Citymapper" in the travel category.
