I used the "my computer" management under Windows XP to divide the area where Fedora grub will be installed. It is divided into three parts, and the file format is all ext3:

2) A 400m partial mount / boot, which * proves to be very necessary. If you do not specify a special disk mount for / boot, you will not be able to boot into the normal Fedora grub of linux after installation.

Make the boot flash drive of Fedora

1. Preparatory work:

1) hardware: a flash drive above 4G

2) Software 1:Fedora-10-i386-DVD.iso

3) Software 2:Fedora grubinst-1.1-bin-w32-2007-12-29

4) Software 3:Fedora grub4dos-0.4.3-2008-05-02.zip

5) Software 4:WinImage

two。 Steps:

1) use the Fedora grubinst_gui.exe in software 2 to install Fedora grub on U disk, just select "disk" when installing, and select the corresponding drive letter of U disk, click "install". If there is an error of "Bad partition", just add-skip-mbr-test in the place of additional parameters, and then click "install" to appear the word successful.

2) copy grldr and menu.lst under Fedora grub4dos to USB disk.

3) copy Fedora-10-i386-DVD.iso to USB disk.

4) install WinImage. Set up two directories under the U disk as boot and images, use WinImage to extract vmlinuz and initrd.img from the pxeboot in Fedora-10-i386-DVD.iso to the boot directory of the U disk, and extract the entire images folder to the image directory of the U disk. If you do not extract the images, you will not be able to find the install.img during the later installation, and if you only extract the install.img separately, you will be prompted to install on the network at the time of installation, so in order to avoid these problems, you need to extract the contents of the entire images at the beginning.

How to use WinImage: first open the file that needs to be extracted, then find the folder or file that needs to be extracted, double-click or right-click, select "Extract", and save it to the desired location.

5) Edit menu.lst and add the following:

Title F10 setup

Root (hd0,0)

Kernel / boot/vmlinuz root=/dev/hda1

Initrd / boot/initrd.img

Note: there is a space after root, and then the path behind kernel and initrd is the previous step to extract the location of vmlinuz and initrd on the USB disk, that is, under the boot folder. If you follow the steps, you can use the above directly.

6) the boot disk has been installed. These include:

Grldr

Menu.lst

/ boot

Vmlinuz

Initrd.img

/ images

Mirror all files extracted from the images folder from F10

Steps to install Fodera

1. I am IBM's machine. Press F12 to boot and select USB to start.

two。 Select F10 setup to enter, and follow the steps. When prompted to select the loaded image, select / dev/sdb1, and the system will automatically find the image you need under / images.

3. When the installation starts, the screen says, "installation requires partitioning your hard drive." Select the "manual partition" option. Because in my plan, I use / dev/sda8 as the swap, / dev/sda9 as the mount point for / boot, and / dev/sda10 as the mount point for /. Take this as an example. Click / dev/sda8, press "Edit", select format as "swap" in the pop-up dialog box, and OK. For / dev/sda9, you should first choose to mount as / boot, and then format it as ext3. For / dev/sda10, you should first choose to mount as /, and then format it as ext3. After all, you can see that there is an extra formatted check box behind all three devices. Select the next step to format the three devices.

4. After that, just follow the installation steps and there will be no new problems.

Problems and summary

1.Fedora grubinst_gui.exe failed to create boot Fedora grub. Solution: add-skip-mbr-test to the extra parameters.

two。 The file could not be found when booting with a flash drive. The reason is that menu.lst is not written correctly. / boot directory has not been built before to put vmlinuz and initrd.img directly under /, so it cannot be found. Rewriting menu.lst to boot to the correct location at this time, or as the actual method is taken, building a / boot folder to copy the files can solve the problem.

3. / dev/sdb1 was selected during installation, but it was still prompted that the installation image could not be found. The reason is that the install.img in the f10 image is not extracted to the USB disk at the beginning, so the img is extracted and put on the USB disk, and then there will be no error at this stage.

4. In accordance with the method of 3, a dialog box will pop up at a later step to allow the network to install, but I do not have a net, so the installation has been interrupted for a time. The solution is to extract the contents of the entire images folder in the f10 image into the newly created images folder on the USB disk.

5. At first, I only divided Fedora grub into two partitions, but after installation, I found that I couldn't get into Fedora's Fedora grub anyway. I always got into WinXP as soon as I booted up, and I finally found the reason, that is, I didn't divide / boot into a partition, so as long as I gave one more partition to / boot, I could solve the problem. It seems that this is needed for USB disk installation, because I can boot without this partition when I take the CD.
