Description

The LTC ®4412 controls an external P-channel MOSFET to create a near-ideal diode function for power switching or load sharing. This enables efficient "OR" operation of multiple power supplies, designed to extend battery life and reduce spontaneous heat. When on, the voltage drop at both ends of the MOSFET is usually 20mV. For applications that use a wall adapter or other auxiliary power supply, the load is automatically disconnected from the battery when the auxiliary power supply is connected. Load sharing between multiple batteries can be achieved through the interconnection of two or more LTC4412 or multiple batteries can be charged from a single charger.

LTC4412's wide power range supports the use of 1 to 6 series lithium-ion batteries to provide working power. The low static current (typical value is 11 μ A) is independent of the load current. The gate driver includes an internal voltage clamp for MOSFET protection.

When an auxiliary power supply is detected, a STAT pin can be used to enable an auxiliary P-channel MOSFET power switch. The pin can also be used to send an indication signal to the microcontroller when an auxiliary power supply is connected. Control

The (CTL) input enables the user to forcibly turn off the main MOSFET and set the STAT pin to a low level.
