As Exchange versions update and upgrade, we rarely verify that the server settings required for clients to establish MapiHttp connections are configured correctly. Even if all settings for the server, Load Balancer, and Reverse Proxy are correct, you may experience problems connecting to Exchange Server 2013 SP1 with Microsoft Outlook 2013 SP1 with Mapi over HTTPS. At present, we often see the following scenarios:

You are using Microsoft Outlook 2010.

You are using Microsoft Outlook 2013 Service Pack 1 (SP1) or later.

Connected to Microsoft Exchange Server 2013 Service Pack 1 (SP1) or Microsoft Exchange Server 2016 mailbox.

Planning to configure Exchange Mailbox and Client Access (CAS) servers so clients connect to all installations with Exchange Server 2013 SP1 or later or Microsoft Exchange Server 2016.

In the above case below, we found that Outlook clients, in the Outlook Connection Status dialog box under "Protocols," connect to Exchange servers using a connection mechanism other than MAPI / HTTP. There is also a connection using RPC / HTTP as shown below. (MAPI/ HTTP connections use string HTTP specification in protocol column)

After troubleshooting, the reason for this problem is that the MapiHttp function is disabled on the Outlook client. Please change the MapiHttpDisabled value to 0 (zero) or delete the MapiHttpDisabled DWORD value.

1. Exit Outlook client

2. Depending on the Windows OS version, open Registry Editor

Windows 10, Windows 8.1 and Windows 8: Press Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box. Type regedit.exe and press OK.

Windows 7: Click Start, type regedit.exe in the search box, and press Enter.

3. Find and select the following entry in the registry, the default value is 1

Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Exchange

DWORD: MapiHttpDisabled

Value: 1

4. Right-click MapiHttpDisabled and click Modify. Change the value data to 0 and click OK.

5. Close Registry Editor, open Outlook client, confirm Outlook connection status "Protocol" in dialog box

Reference: The following list lists whether clients and servers support the HTTP Over MAPI connection protocol
