Apple is known for its culture of secrecy, which is largely managed by the company's communications director. But it's hard to fill that role, and the most recent addition, former Cisco public relations director Stella Low--, left after less than a year.

According to journalists Kara Swisher and BuzzFeed's John Paczkowski, Kristin Huguet Quayle, an Apple veteran with 15 years of experience, will take over. Apple confirmed to BuzzFeed that her promotion took effect immediately because Low left to spend more time with her family. Former communications boss Steve Dowling left in September 2019, a job that had been vacant for nearly two years before Apple hired Mr low in May last year. (during that time, Phil Schiller, the longtime boss of Apple's marketing and App Store, reportedly stepped forward.)

Between Dowling and Low, Apple has become the world's most valuable public company, embroiled in the (ongoing) Epic v. Apple lawsuit and various reviews by antitrust law enforcers, developers, app store users and their employees. Those who might bring down its secret fortress.

Before that, Katie Cotton, Apple's director of public relations, set the tone for 18 years of communication. After she left, Apple is reportedly looking for a "friendlier, more approachable" successor. I wonder if the relationship between the company and the media will change again.
