Most of the storage of major storage manufacturers have a COM interface, as a storage engineer to provide some important configuration interface, the function of COM interface is very powerful, it can directly connect with the device, and realize a series of operations such as device configuration, debugging, data transmission and so on. In this paper, we mainly explain the management and configuration of device IP through COM port. Let's take the common DS4700 storage of IBM and Dell MD3200 storage as examples to explain the steps of managing IP through the COM interface.

DS4700 serial port management IP configuration

1. Serial port (console) connection, com connection to storage, and the other end is the 9-pin interface of the male head, which requires a 9-pin female interface to the com line of the USB interface to connect to the management computer. As shown below:

2. In driver management, check whether the serial port driver is normal (driver installation is skipped), and record the identified COM port label (currently COM4), as shown below:

3. Start HyperTerminal, create a new connection, name it, and continue to select the corresponding COM port (current COM4) as shown below:

4. Connection configuration: (baud rate: 9600 data bits: 8 parity: no stop bit: 1 data flow control: none) as shown below:

5. Enter the connected state, press the Ctrl+Break (notebook keyboard Ctrl+Fn+B) key to activate the management interface, and press the "ESC" key when the interface appears "Press within 5 seconds: for Service Interface,for baud rate". There will be "VxWorks login:" prompt for user name, enter "shellUsr" here (note case), enter "Password:" prompt for password on the next line, enter password "wy3oo&w4" after enter confirmation, "Serial Port shell started." indicates that shell mode has been started and command operation can be carried out. As shown below:

If the operation is repeated, or if the controller continues the last operation, "Shell task 'tShell0' restarted..." appears. Prompt, indicating that you have entered shell mode and can perform command operations. As shown below:

6. Enter the command "netCfgShow" (pay attention to case) to show the current settings, as shown in the following figure:

7, enter the command "netCfgSet", you can enter to change these configurations, list each change one by one, and enter to confirm it.

"Network Configuration successfully written to NVSRAM." appears after the change is successful. Tip: to confirm the change, we can type "netCfgShow" again to view the configuration. As shown below:

Note: 1. If the serial terminal prompts to set the baud rate, please press the space bar, and then send the interrupt signal Ctrl + Break. 2. Do not enter S or Ctrl + S, otherwise you cannot enter the shell command line. If you have mistakenly entered the Service interface interface, you can press the enter key many times to exit the state and re-send the interrupt signal to activate the serial port.

In fact, Huawei devices also have a large market share, and Huawei's storage devices S3100 and S3200 are the IBM DS4700 of OEM, so the parameters in the connection configuration are the same as DS4700, except for the user name and password, user name: "root", password: "infiniti".

MD3200 serial port management IP configuration

1. Serial port (console) connection, com connection to storage, and the other end is the 9-pin interface of the public head. Connect to the com line that requires a 9-pin female interface to the USB interface for the management computer, and connect to the management computer, as shown in the following figure:

2. In driver management, check whether the serial port driver is normal, and record the identified COM port label (currently COM4), as shown below:

3. Start HyperTerminal, create a new connection, name it, and continue to select the corresponding COM port (current COM4) as shown below:

4, connection configuration: (baud rate: 115200 data bits: 8 parity: no stop bit: 1 data flow control: none) bit rate preferred 115200, if unable to connect successfully try to use 9600 connection. As shown below:

5. Enter the connected state. Press the Ctrl+Break (notebook keyboard Ctrl+Fn+B) key to activate the management interface, when the interface appears as shown below:

6. Press the "S" key (note uppercase) within 5 seconds, and you will be prompted to enter the password and enter the password "supportDell".

Enter Password to access Service Interface:supportDell

After the enter confirmation, the interface will display the service menu.

7. Enter a number at this time to enter the option operation, enter "1" to view the current Ip settings. As shown below:

8. Enter "2" in the service menu interface to enter the IP settings, as shown below:

9. Enter "3" in the service menu interface to reset the password, as shown below:

Through the COM interface connection, you can not only configure the IP and reset the password, but also realize the configuration, debugging, data transfer and other operations through the command line. Of course, we can get the management IP through the COM interface connection, and then we can connect the management software to carry out the management operations you need.
