The full name of the Dig tool is Domain Information Searcher (Domain Information Groper), which can display the detailed DNS query process. It is a very powerful DNS fault diagnosis tool. This feature is generally built into Linux and Unix systems, but there are only nslookup tools in the Windows environment. Let me show you how to install the Dig tools in the Windows environment.

Download the Dig tools installation package Bind

Go to the following FTP image site and download the latest version of the bind installation package:

Ftp://ftp.nominum.com/pub/isc/bind9/

Download the corresponding installation package according to your own system

32-bit system download: BIND9.11.2.x86.zip

64-bit system download: BIND9.11.2.x64.zip

This paper takes the win7 64-bit system as an example:

Extract the BIND9.11.2.x64.zip and double-click vcredist_x64.exe (if it is 32-bit, the file name is vcredist_x86.exe) to install Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Redistribution.

Copy dig.exe to the C:\ Windows\ System32\ directory as well

Finally, copy all the extracted dll files to the C:\ Windows\ System32\ directory. As shown in the following figure:

When the installation is complete, use the command "dig-version" to view and verify the dig tool version

The simplicity and utility of Dig tools

We can directly use the "dig domain name" to query eg: dig www.geekeden.net by DNS.

By default, the DNS server on which dig performs DNS queries is the DNS set locally on the computer, as shown below (my native DNS is set to 192.168.88.1):

You can modify the server of the dig query by adding a file named resolv.conf in the C:\ Windows\ System32\ drivers\ etc\ directory.

Create a new txt text file and copy the following two lines into the txt text file:

Nameserver114.114.114.114

Nameserver 8.8.8.8

Save the txt file name as resolv and change its extension to conf. At this point, the query DNS of dig should be 114.114.114.114.
