Today we experiment with one-arm routing to implement inter-VLAN routing. The most fundamental purpose of dividing VLAN is to increase the number of broadcast domains, reduce the scope of broadcast flooding, and limit broadcasting to one broadcast domain, so as to optimize the utilization of bandwidth and facilitate management. The so-called single arm means that there is only one line between the layer 2 switch and the router, and the corresponding sub-interface of the VLAN is done on the Ethernet port of the router. The gateway of the PC in the VLAN points to the corresponding sub-interface address, and the router has the routing function, so that the VLAN can communicate. One disadvantage of single-arm routing is that the forwarding capability of the router will be a bottleneck, which will not be used in reality, and it is a good example to understand inter-VLAN routing. Experimental steps: (1) configure the switch hostname, divide the VLAN and add ports, and set up Trunk.

(2) set the name on the router, divide the subinterface, and configure the IP address.

(3) configure computer IP, gateway.

(4) ping communication equipment.

Through this experiment, I learned that the two-layer switch cannot connect the devices on the network segment and requires a layer-three router.
