Row and column transposition

Row-column transposition (Transpose) converts cases (rows) in data files into variables (columns) and variables (columns) into cases (rows). Column transposition automatically names new variables and displays a list of new variable names. Use row and column transpose to automatically generate a string variable (case_lbl) containing the original variable name in order to know the original variable name corresponding to each case. If the active dataset contains a variable whose value is unique, it can be used as a name variable (Name Variable), which will generate the variable name of the column-transposed data file. The user missing values in the active data set are all converted to system missing values after the rows and rows are transferred.

Transpose the rows and rows of the data file body1.sav.

1) Open the data file body1.sav.

2) Select [data (Data)] → [transform (Transpose)...], and open the Transpose dialog box, as shown in figure 3-25.

List of ☆ variables (Variable (s)), select one or more variables to transpose rows and rows, in this case x1-x6.

☆ name variable (Name Variable). Select the variable used to generate the variable name of the data file after the row and column transpose. This example is prov (province). If the name variable is a numeric variable, the variable name is V+ the corresponding value.

Note: before the row and column transposition, if you modify the active dataset, please save the data file first, otherwise the modified information will be lost.

3) Click "OK" to complete the process of transposing rows and rows.

In addition, if you need to transpose one or more cases or variables separately, you can use the data reorganization (Restructure) process. That is, the case can be transferred to a variable or a variable to a case.
