Before we create a new virtual machine, we need to download the system template to the relevant directory of the server, which is the same as the previous version.

Method 1: before building, we need to put the system template into the specified directory. The OpenVZ system template can be downloaded from the OpenVZ official website. They provide a lot of system templates, which are put into the server / var/lib/vz/template/cache directory with the tar.gz suffix.

Method 2: the operating system of KVM is the installation image ISO file, and the installation file of Linux can be found officially in each major distribution, while that of windows is even simpler, such as windows2003's ISO, which is provided in many places, and the system files of KVM are placed in the server / var/lib/vz/template/iso directory.

After uploading the image file, we can start to create a new virtual machine and install the operating system.

In the upper right corner of the page, create a virtual machine (equivalent to opening KVM) and create a CT (equivalent to opening OpenVZ, the latest is LXC). Here we click to create a virtual machine to set up a host of windowsXP system.

Come up with the name winxp

The next step is to select the ISO image. I have downloaded the windowsxp system ISO to the template directory, which I can choose from here.

Then choose the category and version.

Here are the hard disk size settings, backup, cache, etc.

Set the number of CPU cores and memory size

The following figure shows the choice of the network, only bridging mode, or NAT mode, here I choose bridging, and then the model chooses VitlO paravirtualization.

Here you can see our newly built virtual machine.

Click to start the installation system and enter the console (VNC). Why would I put this picture here? Because if you use 360 or other browsers to enter the console, the "connection failure" black screen will appear.

Remember to use Firefox (almost drunk)

I will not demonstrate the process of installing XP below, just a few screenshots to show the process

After the installation is completed, the network card is not recognized under the XP. I will just change the network card to 8139 network card in the hardware. Then set up the IP address and you can surf the Internet normally.

Let's test the "migration" feature first, because we have configured shared storage, so try hot migration

Here you can see that you have successfully migrated to PVE2.

Let's test what happens when PVE1 is turned off.

At this time, the PVE1 is offline and the VM below cannot be connected.

This does not set up highly available features, so let's set up HA. Enter the HA option of the cluster and add groups and VM

Let's try again what happens after shutting down PVE1.

After about two minutes, VM automatically migrates to PVE2

Although HA can be automatically migrated to other nodes by VM to continue to work, I still do not recommend relying solely on this way to ensure the operation of VM. It is best to manually hot migrate VM when you find that there is something wrong with the node. So far, how to set up a virtual machine has been completed and can be used normally.
