problem description

After a foreign enterprise customer IT system standardization, the original practice of installing printers locally on a host computer in each department and then sharing them is no longer applicable. These large number of USB interface printers can still work normally at present, and if they are replaced by RJ45 interface network printers, it will increase customer IT investment. Customers want to enjoy the ease of management and use that IT standardization brings without excessive overhead.

problem analysis

To meet customer needs, we needed a device that could convert a USB printer to an RJ45 network port--a shared print server. The role of the shared print server is simply to convert the USB port into an RJ45 network port and turn the USB printer into a network printer. The effect is as follows:

However, in the actual selection process, it is necessary to make sure that the selected shared print server supports setting the IP address and directly adding the installation printer with this IP address. Some so-called shared printer servers require specific programs to be installed on each printer in order to function properly.

solution

After understanding and consulting, we ordered a prototype from a manufacturer that specializes in producing shared print servers. After testing to meet the configuration IP, we can directly add and install printers to our print servers with this IP address, and then share them with end users.

operation steps

There are three main steps to install and configure a shared print server: setting IP and modifying properties; installing to a corporate print server and sharing; and end-user connection. 1. Set IP and modify attributes:

Power on the shared printer server, plug in the Internet cable to the RJ45 network port, and connect the USB port to the printer. Run the special software provided by the manufacturer on the computer in the same network segment, right-click the searched shared print server under parameter settings-open the settings page:

IE access interface will be automatically opened. The default administrator password is Admin. After entering it, log in:

Click Network-Port, our tester has two network ports, our network cable is connected to LAN port 2, click Modify:

Enter IP address, subnet mask, etc. according to the plan-save settings to complete IP address setup:

Click System-System:

Change the host name to the company standardized shared printer naming name. To change the administrator password, enter the new password twice in the host password field, and then save the settings:
