I think this contains two meanings: one is that Sun admits that its Applet has been eliminated (Appletisdead); the other is that Sun company wants to rely on JavaFX to re-compete for the desktop market. JavaFX includes JavaFX scripting language and JavaFxMobile application. JavaFX scripting language is a declarative (declarativelanguage) language invented by Sun. Its syntax is similar to SVG and is used for rapid development of graphical user interface. At the JavaOne conference these days, I watched a video from RichardBair, an engineer from Sun, in which Richard demonstrated a system called IRIS, which was built using Applet based on Swing (aRIAswingapplet), and Richard proved that Applet was not Iamnotdead.

4) JavaScript/Ajax,Ajax can be said to be the most widely used RIA application at present, and the concept of Web2.0 is developed because of Ajax. Typical Ajax applications are Google's Gmail and GoogleMap. In order to better meet the needs of developers, many open source Ajax frameworks have emerged. In addition, there are also some commercial Ajax frameworks for developers to choose from.

5) MicrosoftActiveX control, ActiveX control can be embedded in HTML page, its history is as old as Applet, but it is a technology developed by Microsoft, so it can only run in IE.

6) Silverlight, Microsoft has seen the potential of the RIA market, and it certainly doesn't want to lag behind. Silverlight is the weapon Microsoft uses to enter the RIA market. Silverlight is essentially a WPF application whose interface is described in XAML and the back end can be developed in any .net compatible language. Microsoft has now released Sliverlight2.0BetaSDK, which allows developers to develop Silverlight applications through the SDK.

7) Flash,Flash is a RIA technology released by Adobe, which can be developed through FlexSDK. At present, the application of Flash on the network is very common.
