This week Apple updated its healthcare platform CareKit, which allows developers to build more advanced software solutions to track, manage and report on different medical conditions.

CareKit is an open source tool platform officially launched by Apple in March this year, similar to ResearchKit, but on a much smaller scale. CareKit aims to promote the integration of user safety and health data and provide it for personal and medical industry professionals to share.

According to TechCrunch, the CareKit platform currently offers four apps for iPhone users, namely, Glow Nurture for fertility tracking, Glow Baby for maternal and infant health care, One Drop for diabetes testing and Start for antidepressant drug tracking. The CareKit also supports the GitHub platform.

Developers can integrate the key modules of these four applications into their own App. First, Care Card can manage health drugs and exercise configuration; second, Progress Card can track symptoms to generate a log, and measure some physical indicators, including pain level, hunger, heart rate, etc., while heart rate function can also be integrated into Apple Watch. Both Care Card and Progress Card data can be viewed through Insight Dashboard's dashboard interface. Finally, the connection module allows users and health care workers to share their own health data.

CareKit can also be added to major medical record systems, allowing users to share their personal health data more systematically and securely with doctors and hospitals.
