Apple regularly reports record quarterly earnings, especially in the company's fiscal first quarter, which includes the holiday shopping season. And the first quarter of 2022 managed to surpass all of that: Apple just posted its biggest revenue of any quarter in its history. Fueled by continued growth in iPhone 13 sales and services, Apple reported revenue of $123.9 billion and earnings per share of $2.10, easily beating Wall Street estimates of $118.66 billion and $1.89. Apple made a profit of $34.6 billion--another record.

The iPhone enjoyed a strong sales quarter, which isn't surprising given that it was the holiday season and the first full quarter for the iPhone 13, 13 mini, 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max. Revenue from the iPhone division was $71.63 billion, up 9 percent from the same period last year.

With the exception of the iPad, which declined 14 percent and was affected by supply constraints, all of Apple's other divisions also grew year-over-year. Macs grew 25%, services grew 24%, and wearables grew 13%.

In terms of new product launches, Apple is expected to be very busy in 2022. Rumor has it that the company will have a new iPhone SE ready as soon as next month that supports 5G. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, an updated iPad Air and products that might be improved in the Mac lineup-such as a Mac mini or iMac running the M1 Pro chip debuted in the 2021 MacBook Pro-could also launch in the first half of this year. Just yesterday, Bloomberg revealed that Apple may soon launch a Square-like service that allows iPhone users to accept contactless payments without any additional hardware.

Looking ahead to 2022, the company is rumored to be working on a new Mac Pro powered by its own chips. Following the third-generation AirPods released last year, the next-generation AirPod Pro earbuds are also expected to appear in the coming months along with the redesigned iPad Pro and the usual iPhone update when autumn arrives.
