Install IBM XL Compact + on IBM AIX 7.1s

This tutorial will show you how to install XL Candlestick + version 11.1 on the IBM AIX 7.1 operating system.

You can download XL Cplink + version 11.1 from the IBM Software Download site.

If you are not an employee of IBM, you can look for a trial or demo version.

However, this version is not currently supported in AIX 7.1. IBM has released a fix for this issue, which can be downloaded from the IBM Fix Central website.

Alternatively, you can download it from the IBM FTP website.

Perform the following steps to complete the installation process:

1. Log in to the server where you want to install XL Cplink +, and then download the following software package:

Vacpp.11.1.0.0.GA.aix53TL7-61.tar

Vacpp.111.aix53TL7-71.january.2012.ptf.tar.Z

Please note: apart from these two packages, there are no special requirements for the operating system for this installation.

3. Start the installation process using smitty.

Please note: we have now entered the catalog. Because the installation file is in the current directory. If this is not the case, you need to provide the path where the / usr/sys/inst.p_w_picpaths directory is located.

5. Preview the installation process. First check to see if the installation file is fully downloaded and damaged.

6. The installation process should display OK. Now, press Esc+3 or F3 to return to the previous screen.

8. Press Esc+0 or F10 to exit the SMITTY menu.

We have already mentioned that this installation process is only supported in AIX 5.3 and 6.1, and on AIX 7.1, we need to apply a fix to this installation.

Access the directory where vacpp.111.aix53TL7-71.january.2012.ptf.tar.Z is saved and perform the following steps:

9. Unpack XL C _ fix pack + (fix pack) into a directory.

10. Use the inutoc command to create a .toc file in the directory.

11. Use the smitty install_all command to start the installation process.

Press Enter to apply the hotfix we downloaded to get AIX 7.1 support.

Note that sometimes the installation process may fail because the requirements of the IBM debugger are not met. But it doesn't matter, we have installed the IBM debugger in the base package installation.

After completing this installation, we will export the path so that each build file can reference the xlc_r command in the / usr/vac/bin directory.
