MoviePass seems to have ruined its unlimited subscription service

Shulou(Shulou.com)05/31 Report--

After repeated trials of various payment models in 2016, MoviePass, a subscription-based movie ticketing service, finally found gold in August last year and reduced the price of its unlimited plan to $9.95 a month. In New York, users can watch as many as 30 movies a month in cinemas with less than one ticket. But on Friday, with the launch of the time-limited iHeartRadio program, the unlimited movie project disappeared.

Last weekend, with the opening of the Cochra Music Festival, MoviePass announced that it would work with iHeartRadio to provide new users with the opportunity to sign up for MoviePass and iHeartRadio All Access services for three months at a cost of $29.95. Catch it? Members of this version can only watch four movies a month.

If you visit MoviePass or download MoviePass applications on your mobile device, you will find that iHeartRadio is currently the only way to register for this service. While the three-month trial of iHeartRadio's full-access service is not to be underestimated, I think most new users get about 26 free movies every month through an extended trial of the online music service. But right now, they don't have that choice.

The good news is that the proposal seems to have no impact on current users. If you signed up for an old service of $9.95 a month by last Friday, your plan should be as effective as before. There are fears that once the iHeartRadio deal is over, the restrictions on the four films will eventually apply to all subscribers.

Of course, once the offer expires, MoviePass may still return to the business model launched last year, but the company can change the terms and conditions at any time. As long as you provide enough notice and do not cancel any annual subscriptions paid by users, you can limit each plan to four movies per month at the time of contract renewal. There is no evidence yet that MoviePass intends to do so, but if you have paid the price, it may be worth paying attention in the coming weeks.

Update: last night, Johnny Woodward contacted us on Twitter to tell us that MoviePass support staff had contacted him and confirmed that the standard $9.95 plan would be returned once the proposal expired. However, the news did not reveal how many films are planned to be released each month after release.

The significance of this information may be that the standard plan will return in the coming weeks or months, but if so, why should iHeartRadio's recommendations be limited to 4 per month? Does anyone really exchange about 25 free movies a month for a 90-day free trial period on iHeartRadio? It still doesn't make any sense.
