Microsoft released Exchange 2016 CU8 on December 19, 2018, fixing a number of known problems.

However, enterprises in some mixed deployment environments encounter the problem of busy and idle information sharing, and after consulting with Microsoft, the reply is already a problem.

Microsoft released the known issue of Exchange Server 2016 CU8 on January 24, 2018:

Enterprises with mixed deployments fail when a cloud user (Office 365user) initiates a Free/Busy query to a local user (Exchange 2016 CU8 user).

This problem is caused by the online Authentication connection Module (OAuth Connectivity) of Exchange 2016 CU8.

The temporary solution is to enable the archive mailbox for each mailbox on exchange online and initiate a busy query to the local mailbox through the archive mailbox, thus skipping the online verification connection.

To solve the problem completely, we will have to wait for the release of the next version (exchange 2016 CU9).
