With impressive advances in autonomous vehicles, robots, drones, new retail applications and more, computer vision (CV) has become the dominant word. For those of us who have been working in the field for some time, it is becoming increasingly obvious that this technology is changing everything.

Looking ahead to 2019, there are nine CV trends that will dominate the year ahead.

CV applications are becoming more widespread. 2019 CV apps will be ubiquitous on mobile phones, security cameras, virtual mirrors and more, which has significant implications for data privacy (an issue consumers are increasingly sensitive to) because apps don't have to transmit data over the internet to work properly.

Amazon is clearly not slowing down; Bloomberg reports that the company could open as many as 3,000 cashless stores by 2021.

Drive data regulation and privacy protection. Due to a series of high-profile data privacy scandals, some of the major tech incidents that occurred in 2018 could increase consumer dissatisfaction and mistrust with tech companies 'data management. There is no doubt that in 2019 CV data will be subject to a variety of regulations and more AI apps (which, with all due respect, is a good thing) will be more transparent.
