Strong demand during the shutdown contributed to a 23 per cent increase in tablet shipments in the Asian market in the June quarter as a shift from work and study to housing, according to a new report on Wednesday.

According to CMR's Review of the tablet Market report for the second quarter of 2020, shipments of tablets with Wi-Fi increased by 98% (QoQ).

Lenovo continues to lead the tablet market with a 48% market share, up 24% from a quarter earlier. The Lenovo M10 series contributed 14% of the market share.

"in addition to consumer demand, the growth of the tablet market has also benefited from flexible discounts offered by suppliers and channel partners to take advantage of demand," said CMR analyst and Menka Goddess of Industrial Intelligence Group (IIG).

Samsung gained 29% of the market, an increase of 143% (QoQ).

Samsung's Tab A series did do well, with the Galaxy Tab A 10.1 LTE and Wi-Fi (2019) series contributing nearly 25 per cent of the market.

"tablets are more portable and have larger screens. More importantly, they are making digital content accessible to all family members at a more affordable price," said Pablam, head of CMR's Industrial Intelligence Unit (IIG).

In the second quarter, Apple ranked third with a 12 per cent market share, up 36 per cent from a year earlier (QoQ).

The iPad 7 series contributed nearly 7 per cent of the market share.

"Apple has launched a new version of iPad Pro 2020 with keyboard, which is suitable for e-learning and content creators," the report said. "I'm glad to see how iPad Pro 2020 will contribute to Apple's growth in the coming quarters."
