Shulou(Shulou.com)05/31 Report--
Editor to share with you what are the milestones in the history of Linux, I believe most people do not know much about it, so share this article for your reference, I hope you can learn a lot after reading this article, let's learn about it!
1991:Linus Torvalds announces the birth of Linux to the world
The email was sent by Linus on the Minix Usenet newsgroup on August 25, 1991, which is usually considered Linux's birthday. Linus, who was not well-known at the time, said its new operating system was "just an interest, not as big and professional as the GNU for 386 AT."
1992 the Battle of Linux
Andrew Tannenbaum was an operating system expert and the author of the famous Minix operating system at that time, which was a version of Unix for teaching purposes. Andrew claimed that "LINUX is obsolete", thus starting the battle of Linux's operating system. In the resulting debate, Linus published a view that still seems correct to this day: "if the GNU kernel (Hurd, another project trying to build a free Unix-like operating system) had been ready last spring, I would never have started my project: in fact, it's not finished at all, and it's probably never going to be done. The big reason Linux wins is that it works now!"
1993:Slackware Linux
There are already some early Linux distributions, such as MCC and Yggdrasil Linux, but Patrick Volkerding's Slackware is one of the most successful, and it is still being updated and used to this day.
1993:Debian Linux project launch
The community version of the Linux:Debian Linux project has been launched. Today, it is the upstream release of Mint, Ubuntu, and many popular Linux distributions.
The birth of 1994:Red Hat Linux
Marc Ewing founded Red Hat Linux, and then Bob Young bought Ewing's company and merged with his own company to reorganize into Red Hat--, the most successful Linux company today.
1995:Linux General Assembly held
Linux held its business conference Linux Expo. Today, there are more and more Linux conferences, and more than a dozen global or regional Linux meetings are held every year in the United States alone.
1996:KDE
* A major Linux desktop system KDE project was launched.
1996:SUSE Company created
In the same year, after Slackware and Red Hat Linux, SUSE, an European company called Linux, released its independent Linux distribution.
1997:GNOME
The GNOME desktop project starts. Today, it and KDE are the two most important desktop systems on Linux.
