Spotify

The Linux version of Spotify is not one of those stupid, half-baked apps that flicker when you start, and there is no castration. Clementine is one of the best music players on the Linux platform. Clementine not only allows users to play locally stored music, but also connects to many streaming audio services, such as:

There are two considerations for using Clementine. First, you must use the latest version (because the builds available in some software libraries are outdated and the necessary streaming plug-ins are not installed). Second, even with the latest build, some streaming services will not work as expected. For example, when you access the Spotify channel, you can only use the most popular tracks (not playlists, or search for songs).

When you use the Clementine Internet streaming service, you will find that there are many musicians and bands you have never heard of (figure 2).

Odio

Odio is a proprietary cross-platform application (available for Linux, MacOS and Windows) that allows you to stream all types of Internet music stations. The content of the broadcast is taken from www.radio-browser.info, and the application itself does an incredible job of rendering the stream for you (figure 3).

The 3:Odio interface is one of the best interfaces you can find.

Odio makes it easy to find unique Internet radio stations and even add stations you find and collect to your library. Currently, the only way to install Odio on Linux is through Snap. If your distribution supports the snap package, install this streaming application using the following command:

Sudo snap install odio

After installation, you can open the application and start using it. There is no need to log in (or create) an account. The settings for Odio are very limited. In fact, it only provides the option to select a dark or light theme in the settings window. However, while its functionality may be limited, Odio is one of the best options for playing Internet broadcasts on Linux.

StreamTuner2

Streamtuner2 is an excellent GUI tool for Internet radio. Using it, you can stream the following music:

Streamtuner2 provides a good interface, if not a bit out of date, to easily find and play your favorite music. One warning from StreamTuner2 is that it's really just a GUI for finding the streaming media you want to hear. When you find a site, double-click it to open the stream-related application. This means that you must install the necessary applications to play streaming. If you don't have the right application, you can't play streaming. Therefore, you will spend a lot of time determining which applications to install for some streaming media (figure 4).

VLC

For a long time, VLC has been called the best media playback tool for Linux. There is a good reason for this, because it can play almost everything you throw it. These include streaming radio stations. Although you can't connect VLC to a site like Spotify, you can directly access the Internet broadcast and click on the playlist, and VLC can no doubt open it. Considering that there are many Internet radio stations, you won't have any problem finding music that suits your taste. VLC also includes visualization tools, equalizers (figure 5) and other tools.
