First, create a virtual disk through the disk Management tool

There are two formats of virtual hard disk: "dynamic expansion" and "fixed size", in which the "dynamic expansion" item indicates that the Win7 system will dynamically adjust the size according to the saved data, and the "fixed size" item indicates that the size of the virtual disk is fixed.

1. Click "start → run" in Win7 system, enter "diskmgmt.msc" in the text box of "run" window and enter enter

3. Click the "browse" button, pop up the "Browse Virtual disk File" window, set the save location and file name, and click "Save".

4, return to the "create and attach virtual disk" window, set the capacity of the virtual disk, select the virtual disk format, and finally click the "OK" button (figure 1). At this time, "disk Management" will add a virtual disk named "disk 1".

II. Initialization of virtual disk

After completing the first step, we have created a virtual disk. You will find that it is not difficult to create a virtual disk in the win7 system, but the virtual disk that has just been created has to be "initialized" before it can be used.

1. Right-click "disk 1" and select "initialize disk" from the pop-up shortcut menu

2. Open the "initialize disk" window, check the disk, select the partition form, and click the "OK" button (as shown in figure 2) to complete the initialization of the virtual disk.

Third, the creation of virtual drive letters

After the virtual disk has been created and initialized successfully, we will assign a drive letter to the virtual disk.

1. Right-click the newly created and initialized virtual disk, select "New simple Volume" from the pop-up menu, and start the "New simple Volume Wizard".

2. Specify the volume size, assign the drive letter, format, under the guidance of the wizard. Finally, click the finish button, complete the creation of the volume, open the computer window, and you can see the virtual disk (figure 3).

IV. Closing and deletion of virtual disk

When detaching a virtual disk, if you check "Delete the virtual hard disk file after deleting the disk", the virtual disk file will be deleted completely. If you do not check "delete the disk and delete the virtual hard disk file", the virtual disk file will be retained. To create a virtual disk later, just go to the "disk Management" window and click "operate → attach VHD". Import the virtual disk file to generate a virtual disk.
