How to carry out VMware vSphere Replication log troubleshooting analysis, many novices are not very clear about this, in order to help you solve this problem, the following editor will explain for you in detail, people with this need can come to learn, I hope you can gain something.

If there is a problem with the tool you use to protect your data, you need to locate the fault by analyzing the log.

Logs are a major source of information for troubleshooting-especially in complex environments where hardware and software are interdependent. VMware vSphere Replication is a data protection product of Vmware based on virtualization platform. The detailed logs provided by the virtual appliance facilitate internal self-examination of potential problems or are used to communicate with VMware support staff.

For example, the hms-configtool.log file located in the / opt/vmware/hms/logs/ folder reveals problems with the connection between vSphere Replication and SQL Server. The error records in this log can also support error reporting for DB2 or other database applications. The Boot.msg log records startup problems, which may indicate a system failure, connectivity problems, or other problems with the host. Using these logs can significantly save the time required to isolate and resolve problems.

Logs can be accessed through the Web management interface of the Replication Appliance. After entering the URL address of the appliance's interface, click vSphere Replication Management (VRM), select Support, and then click Generate. This action packages all current vSphere Replication logs into a zip file and provides a downloadable link. The .Zip file should contain multiple logs derived from the following locations:

/ opt/vmware/hms/logs/

/ opt/vmware/var/log/lighttpd/

/ var/log/vmware/

/ var/log/boot.msg

Although administrators can access vSphere Replication log files independently, managers may still need to set permissions to access log folders or collect logs automatically.

Log files can become large, which makes it necessary for proper storage management. VMware vSphere Replication automatically creates a new log file when the log file size reaches about 50MB. Replication will retain about 10 recent log packages and delete the oldest log packages to make room for new log files. The above automation features can eliminate most of the manual operation of cleaning up logs, but you can still click the Delete button next to the specified log files to delete old log files as needed.
