Apple's 2020 iPhone generation is expected to represent a large-scale upgrade in the future. In the long run, the Cupertino-based tech giant is planning several other major changes.

According to Bengeskin, the whistleblower, one of them is to delete the lightning port because Apple wants an iPhone without a port.

The destruction of the Lightning connector will pose a series of challenges not only for Apple, but also for customers, because the Lightning connector is essential for basic things such as charging the iPhone and connecting wired Apple CarPlay devices.

But Apple seems to be planning everything in advance, so the iPhone without a Lightning can only recharge and wirelessly connect to the car. There is no doubt that this change will be very different from the current approach on iPhone, and many buyers may not be satisfied, especially because of the need for other accessories, such as wireless chargers.

Gap change

On the other hand, this is a long-term plan, and Apple may gradually adopt this new design to make the transition as seamless as possible.

In addition, Geskin says Apple has tested a series of iPhone prototypes in 2020, which makes sense given that we are in the planning stage for the next generation of models. More interestingly, however, some prototypes have smaller gaps, which may indicate that the 2020 iPhone may eventually undergo more significant design changes.

There are rumors that Apple may abandon this feature completely by 2020. However, this approach seems unlikely at this time, because Apple may only be working on ways to reduce the size, rather than strangling it completely.
