Esxi network

1. Esxi network:

Physical network: a real network in which an esxi host communicates with other components, and a virtual network is based on a physical network.

Virtual network: a network formed by logical connections between virtual machines running on esxi hosts by communicating with each other.

2. Network components:

Physical network card: a real network card owned by a vmnic,esxi host for external connection to devices such as physical switches

Virtual network card: referred to as vnic, a virtual network card owned by a virtual machine, used to connect to a virtual switch

Virtual switch, referred to as vswitch, is provided by the esxi kernel to ensure communication between the virtual machine and the management interface. Can be logically divided into ports or port groups

Standard switch: a virtual switch managed separately by each esxi host, including virtual machine port group, vmkernel port and NIC team

Virtual port group: used to connect the communication between virtual machines in the esxi host. A virtual machine must be connected to a port group, and can communicate with the outside through the host's physical network card. The port group has no ip address.

Vmkernel: management port that provides advanced vsphere features. Ip address needs to be configured, such as vmotion, storage network, traffic management, etc.

Nic team: group multiple physical network cards to increase throughput and provide redundancy.

Distributed switch: an advanced switch that centrally manages multiple esxi, providing distributed port groups. The esxi host joining the distributed switch can use the configuration of the distributed switch, which does not need to be configured separately on each esxi, so it is easy to manage. Must be created in the data center in vcenter
