Tencent WeTest Cloud Games, launched with the joint efforts of Tencent WeTest, Tencent Cloud and Intel, can virtualize Android systems on the cloud, run games and transmit images directly to player terminals, cross-screen, cross-platform and cross-user, providing players with a high-quality game experience anytime, anywhere.
To put it simply, as shown in figure 1, a Tencent WeTest cloud game system for Android includes server-side deployment with a series of virtualized Android systems, cloud game deployment & management background and player-side terminal SDK. After the control command from the player side is uploaded through the network, the cloud server renders, encodes and decodes the game screen according to the command, and then presents the network audio and video stream on the player terminal.
Cloud Game system Architecture for Android
Compared with other cloud computing schemes, cloud game system has the characteristics of higher server running density, stronger performance, better scalability and so on. To this end, Tencent WeTest, together with Intel, uses advanced remote rendering GPU pool and container-based Android virtualization technology to create new cloud game rendering, coding and Android virtualization capabilities; together with Tencent Cloud, it promotes the deployment of edge nodes, improves the intelligent background scheduling strategy, and creates a complete cloud game PaaS platform service. The three parties work together to build a cloud game system for Android.
The game rendering in the system is based on Intel ®Visual Computing Accelerator 2 (Intel ®VCA2), which is equipped with Intel ®™Pro 580core display, 72 EU units and 128MB eDRAM, together with the excellent computing power provided by three built-in Intel ®Xeon ®E3-1500 v5 processors, providing cloud game systems with powerful game rendering and coding capabilities for 2D/3D games.
At the same time, taking advantage of the unique architecture and capabilities of Intel ®VCA2, the system also uses an advanced remote rendering GPU pool. This technology can make greater use of GPU resources in the way of dynamic scheduling, thus providing efficient cloud rendering and hardware coding capabilities for multiple users at the same time.
In the aspect of virtualization management, the system implements the container-based Android virtualization function based on the core Houdini components provided by Intel, and provides GaaS services in the way of SDK. On the one hand, compared with the traditional virtualization method, the container has a higher utilization rate of processor and memory, which can help game operators effectively reduce the hardware deployment cost of cloud games; on the other hand, SDK also makes it more convenient for players to access cloud games.
Players can apply for Android virtual machine resources through the SDK on the terminal. According to the current player's device type, screen resolution, required game type and network situation, the system will automatically assign him an idle Android virtual machine with a specified game, matching screen resolution, nearest to the user, and a lighter performance load.
Excellent rendering capability and innovative containerized Android virtual technology, combined with high-bandwidth and low-latency data transmission capabilities provided by edge clouds for 5G networks, coupled with the excellent work of Tencent WeTest team in container cloud game management, container scheduling and compatibility modification of containers for games, allow players to play high-quality games at will, even with low-end mobile phones.
The characteristics of cross-terminal, high real-time and low equipment requirements of cloud games can greatly help high-quality games get rid of the shackles of hardware, platform and environment, and benefit all aspects of the whole game industry chain in an extremely simple way. In the future, Tencent WeTest, Tencent Cloud and Intel also plan to carry out more comprehensive and in-depth cooperation in high-performance virtual machines, integration with edge computing, cloud game experience, and cloud game business model exploration, which will not only bring a better play experience for gamers, but also work together to promote the development of cloud game quality ecosystem.
