Create a custom image using an instance

You can create a custom image based on the instance and copy all the disks in the instance, including the data in the system disk and the data disk, to the custom image.

During the process of creating a custom mirror, each disk of the instance automatically creates a snapshot, which is combined to form a custom mirror, as shown in the following figure.

You can also create a custom mirror based on a snapshot. Refer to using snapshots to create custom mirrors.

Instructions for operation

Delete the sensitive data in the instance before creating a custom image to avoid potential data security risks.

In the process of creating an image, do not change the status of the instance, do not stop, start or restart the instance, so as to avoid creation failure.

When creating an instance with a custom image with a data disk, the data disk is created based on the image by default. If the data disk is created at the same time as the instance is created, the data disk snapshot of the image is used by default to create the data disk of the instance according to the mount point.

Support the export of custom images with data disks.

When replacing a system disk, you cannot use a custom image with a data disk.

Operation steps

Log in to the ECS Management console.

At the top of the instance list page, select the region where the target instance is located.

Click the instance in the left navigation bar.

Find the required instance. Click more on the far right of the list > to create a custom mirror.

Enter the image name and description information.

Click create.

The mirror cannot be used until all snapshots of all disks have been created. Please be patient.

Subsequent operation

After you have successfully created a custom image, you may want to create an instance using the custom image.
