FAILOVER_MODE = {AUTOMATIC | MANUAL}

Specifies the failover mode of the availability copy to be defined. Specifies the failover mode of the availability replica that you are defining.

Automatic AUTOMATIC

Enable automatic failover. Enables automatic failover. This option is supported only if you also specify that the availability mode is synchronous commit mode. This option is supported only if you also specify AVAILABILITY_MODE = SYNCHRONOUS_COMMIT. You can specify automatic for two available replicas, including the master copy. You can specify AUTOMATIC for two availability replicas, including the primary replica.

Comment Note

SQL Server failover Cluster instance (FCI) does not support automatic failover by availability group, so you can only configure any availability copy hosted by FCI for manual failover. SQL Server Failover Cluster Instances (FCIs) do not support automatic failover by availability groups, so any availability replica that is hosted by an FCI can only be configured for manual failover.

Manual MANUAL
