Shulou(Shulou.com)06/01 Report--

Editor to share with you how to achieve ADSL dial-up Internet access in ubuntu, I believe that most people do not know much about it, so share this article for your reference, I hope you can learn a lot after reading this article, let's go to know it!

1.ADSL

To dial up the Internet with ADSL under ubuntu, you first need to use pppoeconf to set the user name and password. (see ubuntu help)

1. Verify that your Ethernet card has been detected.

two。 Enter your user name.

3. Enter your password.

4. If you have ever configured a PPPoE connection, you will be asked if you need to change its settings.

5. Common options: you are asked if you want the "noauth" and "defaultroute" options and remove "nodetach"-Select Yes.

6. Use peer DNS- to select Yes.

7. Limited MSS problem-Select Yes.

8. When you are asked if you want to connect at startup, you usually want to choose "Yes".

9. Finally, you will be asked if you want to establish a connection immediately.

Once you have completed these steps, your connection should be available.

To start your ADSL connection immediately, enter:

Sudo pon dsl-provider

To disconnect your ADSL connection, enter:

Sudo poff dsl-provider

2.dns Settin

When dialing up the Internet, it is often found that some websites cannot be logged in, such as www.openswan.org,www.kernel.org.

Enter: # nslookup at the command line

> server

Default server: 202.102.192.68

Address: 202.102.192.68#53

Default server: 202.102.199.68

Address: 202.102.199.68#53

You can find the dns you are using. You can also enter some URLs to see if they can be parsed.

Www.sohu.com canonical name = d7.a.sohu.com.

D7.a.sohu.com canonical name = cachesh2.a.sohu.com.

Name: cachesh2.a.sohu.com

Address: 61.152.234.80

Name: cachesh2.a.sohu.com

Address: 61.152.234.81

Name: cachesh2.a.sohu.com

Address: 61.152.234.82

Name: cachesh2.a.sohu.com

Address: 61.152.234.84

Name: cachesh2.a.sohu.com

Address: 61.152.234.85

Name: cachesh2.a.sohu.com

Address: 61.152.234.86

But input

Server: 202.102.192.68

Address: 202.102.192.68#53

Non-authoritative answer:

* Can't find www.kernel.org: No answer

After some pain, I found that the first thing to do is to modify the / etc/ppp/pper/dsl-provider file to interpret the usepeerdns entry. This comment means that the dns in / etc/resolve.conf automatically set by ubuntu is not required. I am in Hefei, Anhui. The default dns given to me by ubuntu is as follows:

Nameserver 202.102.192.68

Nameserver 202.102.199.68

Later, I went online to find an open source DNS.

As follows:

Nameserver 208.67.222.222

Nameserver 208.67.220.220

From then on, I no longer worry about surfing the Internet.

However, as a result of this method, the wireless network card is not enabled after the restart.

Based on the synthesis of several situations, the methods are summarized as follows:

1. Use the Network Manager that comes with Ubuntu9.04, or use the Wicd tool (which is said to solve the problem that no wireless network card is not enabled after pppoe is set up).

2.ADSL dialing tool, using the gtk-pppoe tool gtk-pppoe_0.0.1_i386.deb, sudo gedit / etc/ppp/peers/dsl-provider needs to be changed after installation. Download address http://cid-9eb071c4942d8e94.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/ubuntu/gtk-pppoe%5E_0.0.1%5E_i386.deb

The content is

Noipdefault

Defaultroute

Replacedefaultroute

Hide-password

Noauth

Persist

Plugin rp-pppoe.so wlan0

Usepeerdns

User "Dial user name"

Restart and you can go up with the software above.

Just change the port and change eth0 to wlan0 in the terminal input sudo gedit / etc/ppp/peers/dsl-provider (this refers to the name of the wireless card identified by your system). Through the above settings, you can correctly access the Internet, every time you start this software, you can click on the connection. Step 3 can be avoided.

3. This step is mainly to remedy the phenomenon that the wireless network card can not be used after using pppoe, but my own situation is not successful, so I search out the above method.

Modify the network manager settings of Ubuntu's own network manager:

Open / etc/NetworkManager/nm-system-settings.conf

Sudo gedit / etc/NetworkManager/nm-system-settings.conf

Modify

[ifupdown]

Managed=false; change false to true

In the end, the light of the wireless network card is not on, but it is working.

One more article:

Ubuntu 9.10 was installed as soon as it came out, started a little slowly, but ran smoothly.

The only bug encountered so far is no ADSL dialing. Record the two easiest ways:

Use the new version of NetworkManager

Directly quote lainme's concise reply

1. Update network-manager from PPA

Sudo apt-key adv-keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com-recv-keys BC8EBFE8

Add at the end of / etc/apt/sources.list

Deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/network-manager/trunk/ubuntu karmic main

Deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/network-manager/trunk/ubuntu karmic main

Sudo aptitude update

Sudo aptitude safe-upgrade

2. Resolve the conflict between pppoeconf and network-manager

Change the managed=true in / etc/NetworkManager/nm-system-settings.conf

Change / etc/network/interfaces, keep only

Auto lo

Iface lo inet loopback

Delete / etc/resolv.conf

Then sudo / etc/init.d/network-manager restart

If the panel does not have a nm icon, enter nm-applet for ALT+F2 and add self-startup (not added during my installation)

3. Right-click the NM icon, edit the link, switch to DSL, create a new, and enter your user name and password.

Use the pppoeconf command to dial

Enable Wired connection: sudo ifconfig eth0 up

Enter: sudo pppoeconf in the terminal

A text menu-based program will guide you to the following steps:

1. Confirm that the Ethernet card has been detected.

two。 Enter your user name (provided by ISP Note: please clear the "username" in the input box before typing, otherwise it may cause validation error).

3. Enter your password (provided by ISP).

4. If you have configured a PPPoE connection, you will be informed that the connection will be modified.

5. An option pops up: you are asked if you need the 'noauth' and' defaultroute' options and remove the 'nodetach',' and select "Yes" here.

6. Use peer DNS-Select "Yes".

7. Limited MSS problem-Select "Yes".

8. When you are asked if you need to connect automatically when entering the system, you can choose "Yes".

9. Finally, you will be asked if you want to establish a connection immediately.

To start an ADSL connection when needed, you can enter: sudo pon dsl-provider in the terminal

To disconnect the ADSL, you can enter: sudo poff in the terminal

If you find that the connection is working, try to manually adjust the configuration of your previous ADSL connection (see the previous section).

To view the log, you can enter: plog in the terminal.

To get the interface information, you can enter: ifconfig ppp0 in the terminal

After dialing with pppoeconf, the Network Manager shows the solution for the unmanaged device:

Enter the following command in the terminal to configure the network connection management file:

Sudo gedit / etc/NetworkManager/nm-system-settings.conf

When you open it, find

[ifupdown]

Managed=false

Modified to:

[ifupdown]

Managed=true

The terminal runs sudo gedit / etc/network/interfaces

Keep only

Auto lo

Iface lo inet loopback

Delete dns Settings

Sudo mv / etc/resolv.conf / etc/resolv.conf_backup

Then restart the network-manager service:

Sudo service network-manager restart
