In 2010, cloud computing is far from mature, although the foreign AWS is gradually accepted by insiders, but the domestic Aliyun is still in its infancy, so my company started from building its own data center and slowly moved some of its business to Aliyun around 2015. Today, the IT infrastructure owned by the company includes: two data centers in Shenzhen, each with more than 100 physical hosts, and a set of OpenStack instances and four vCenter instances have been built in these two data centers (complaining, OpenStack is really difficult to use, most virtual machines are based on vCenter management). At present, the new business is gradually put on Aliyun, and the monthly expenditure on Aliyun is about 100000.

As a result, a good "cloud management platform" has become the rigid requirement of the author's team. I need the cloud management platform to help me solve the following problems:

1. Hybrid cloud management

Whether it is OpenStack, vCenter, or Aliyun (including the adoption of part of Huawei Cloud soon), we hope that the cloud management platform can be managed in a unified manner.

two。 Provide a self-service portal for specific users of CVM

The company has more than 20 project teams, each of which has several sets of R & D environment and test environment. Whether it is OpenStack or vCenter or Aliyun Management console, it is for system administrators, but the CVM created by system administrators is for project team. Therefore, there is a special need for a self-service portal for project team members, and the created cloud hosts are delivered directly to the project team through this self-service portal.

3. Lifecycle management of CVM

The author hopes to be able to complete the whole life cycle management of CVM application, creation, operation and maintenance, destruction and so on in the cloud management platform, without having to log in to different systems.

4. A useful and flexible work order system

When the project team members apply for the host or destroy the host, they can find my team directly through the work order.

To be able to complete the above four requirements is the cloud management platform that the author thinks is "easy to use".

As for the manufacturers of cloud management platform, there are not many manufacturers doing this around 2016, and in 2018 they are springing up like bamboo shoots after a spring rain. A lot of manufacturers, large and small, have emerged. In order to avoid suspicion of advertising, I will not list them one by one here. In the end, the author chose "Cloud Butler", a company in Shenzhen. the reason for choosing it is: first of all, it meets the rigid demands of the author's team, and secondly, the product experience is very good and the product iteration speed is fast. it looks like an Internet product.
