Shulou(Shulou.com)06/01 Report--
In this issue, Xiaobian will bring you about Windows common data cache introduction and removal methods, the article is rich in content and professional analysis and description for everyone, after reading this article, I hope you can gain something.
On a Windows PC, if you have a 100GB disk, not all of that space can be used for storing files. In addition to the space occupied by the Windows system files themselves, there is a lot of random "cached data" that takes up a certain amount of disk space. Except for the free space that users can use normally.
What is a cache? It sounds like a very technical model, but in fact, some "files" or other types of data commonly used by users are temporarily stored somewhere, which can be read and used the next time they need to be used. This allows Windows to retrieve cached data from a fixed location rather than from the original file or network to speed up response times. Because cache files are non-** temporary storage, the cache data location in Windows is mostly hidden.
For most Windows PC users, using cache is important because it can greatly improve system performance. But its deficiency is that it will take up a certain amount of disk space. If you are seriously short of disk space, you can consider clearing some "cache data" regularly to free disk space.
1. Windows Update cache files
Windows operating system, take up *** amount of disk space "cache data" non-Windows Update cache file belongs to. By default, all update files for Windows Update are cached, resulting in users wasting a lot of disk space while updating Windows.
For example: I have a machine that updated to Windows 10 Version 1511 via Windwos Update and only updated the cache file to 24GB.
Although these update cache files are not automatically cleaned up, we can safely clean them manually. We simply delete all cached data for Windows Update in the following folders when we turn off the Windows Update service:
C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download
2. Windows Store cache files
Windows App Store is a feature Microsoft launched to compete with major manufacturers 'APP stores, but many users don't like these "fake apps." As you might have guessed, Windows also automatically caches content downloaded through the Windows Store. Not only does this take up disk space, it can also cause inexplicable problems. These cached files are most likely to cause problems when users interrupt Windows Store downloads or stop downloading incorrectly.
When users are not using the Windows Store or have problems with it, we can try using the WSReset.exe tool provided by Microsoft to clean up the cache. When we execute WSReset.exe directly in Run, the operation only takes place in the background and you see only a black window. The Windows Store will automatically exit when the execution is complete to indicate that the cleanup is complete.
3. temporary file cache
Windows also has temporary file directories similar to Linux. In this temporary file directory, various applications can drop intermediate data or temporary files generated by them into this cache. Unfortunately, many ISVs develop applications with only one front hand and no back hand, and do not handle the temporary files generated by their applications well. Over time, this can lead to a lot of unnecessary garbage being stored in the Windows temporary file directory.
Of course, we can use the "Disk Cleanup" tool to clear temporary file cache data.
4. Thumbnail cache data
The Picture and Video Preview feature in Windows stores supported video and picture file information in a thumbnail cache for quick display of video and picture previews. If you have a lot of pictures and videos, you may also have a huge thumbnail cache. We can also use the Disk Cleanup tool to cache thumbnail images when necessary (e.g. preview images do not refresh) so that Windows can refresh preview images.
You can also manually rebuild Windows 10 icons and image caches from our previous articles.
5. browser cache
When we visit a web page using a browser, many web site files, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and images, are cached locally to speed up our next visit to the site. Long term use of the browser will accumulate a large number of cache files. It is recommended that you clean up the browser cache regularly according to your own situation and needs.
Since everyone is using different browsers, so we have to go to the browser options to find.
6. DNS cache
When we want to access a website or resolve a domain name in Windows, we need to convert the domain name to an IP address through a DNS server. In this article, we will not describe the recursive and iterative query process of DNS, just know that Windows will cache the DNS resolution results to the local computer.
DNS caching can help users get the IP of frequently used websites faster to speed up the access process, but sometimes it can be counterproductive. For example, if a website changes its IP address in public DNS, and the user's local DNS cache has not expired, it will access the wrong IP address.
If you encounter a problem similar to the above, you can force a manual DNS cache flush by issuing the following command:
ipconfig /flushdns
All right, so here are some common "cache data" points in Windows. Of course, you can also count out the "Windows Search index,""system restore point" and so on can be regarded as space-occupying cache files, here will not introduce one by one.
The above is a small series for everyone to share Windows commonly used data cache introduction and removal method is what, if there is a similar doubt, may wish to refer to the above analysis to understand.
