WDS Automated deployment Service

Windows deployment service (Windows Deployment Services, abbreviated WDS) is suitable for the deployment of computer operating systems in large and medium-sized networks. You can use the Windows deployment service to manage images and unattended installation scripts, and provide options for manual and unattended installation.

WDS services work with DHCP services and Windows active directory domain services to remotely install and deploy operating systems for clients that support PXE startup

Prepare in advance

A server with Windows Sever, a client without a system

Purpose

Remote installation of the client by using WDS services

1. DHCP and WDS services on the server side ensure that the server has a fixed ip address, as shown in the figure:

After ensuring that the server has a fixed ip, go to the server manager and select "add roles and functions"

Set by default until "Select Server role" selects the DHCP server, Windows deployment service, and completes the deployment of the two services

(1) complete the setting of DHCP first

Go to the DHCP server through the start menu

Right-click IPV4, select New scope, and specify the address pool for DHCP on the same network segment as the host, and then complete the setup.

(2) complete the setting of WDS

From the start menu, go to the WDS deployment service

Right-click the hostname and select configure Server

Enter the configuration phase and select to set up a stand-alone server-respond to all client computers-complete the settings

Then enter the virtual machine settings and choose to use the ISO image file

After completing the connection, return to the WDS service, right-click the installation image, select add installation image, find the install file in the sources folder in the CD-ROM drive, and complete the addition of the image.

Then right-click the boot image, select add Boot Image, select the boot file in the sources folder, and then complete the setup.

Finally, the most important step is to right-click the host name, select all tasks, and select start.

This completes the deployment of the server-side DHCP and WDS services, and then returns to the client

Second, use WDS service to automatically install bare metal.

First of all, build a new virtual machine without a system (see my previous blog post on how to create a new virtual machine)

After turning on the computer, you can see the following figure. Quickly press enter to enter automatic deployment.

The following window pops up before entering the official installation, as follows:

The specific hostname needs to be returned to the server for viewing.

After the input is completed, it automatically enters the installation process.
