Shulou(Shulou.com)06/01 Report--
This article introduces how to set the Home directory to private by default in Ubuntu 21.04. the content is very detailed. Interested friends can use it for reference. I hope it will be helpful to you.
Alex Murray, head of Ubuntu security technology, explained the reason for this change. Traditional directory permissions (such as files) can be divided into three types: read, write, and execute, which can be assigned to three types of users: owners, groups, and others. Access to files in private directories is limited to their own users, or other users of the system on individual directories are allowed to access public data. When you create a new user on a Ubuntu system, the permission of its Home directory is to allow other users to share files by default, with read and execute permissions, so multiple family members can share a PC and easily share files with each other. This default setting was an early choice for Ubuntu, but now in the era of cloud computing and the Internet of things, this default permission set for the Home directory is a security risk, so they decided to replace it with a private default setting in the new version.
This change will have little impact on many systems with only one primary user. Here is a case in point: users running libvirt-based virtual machines store disk images in their Home directory. In this case, the virtual machine runs under the libvirt-qemu user, so libvirt cannot now access any virtual machines stored in the user's Home directory as the new permissions change. To resolve this problem, users can selectively access these files by using the access control list entry of the Home home directory, as follows:
Setfacl-mu: libvirt-qemu:rx $HOME
This command specifies that libvirt-qemu has read and execute permissions on the user's Home directory, so libvirt-qemu can view the name and contents of any virtual machine image as needed.
Of course, you can also disable this feature after upgrading to Ubuntu 21.04. by default, share access to the Home directory by running the following command:
# change adduser (8) to enable permissive home directory permissions sudo dpkg-reconfigure adduser # and ensure useradd also follows suit sudo sed-I's / ^\ (HOME_MODE\ s\ + 0750\) / #\ 1etc/login.defs'/ etc/login.defs about how to make the Home directory private by default in Ubuntu 21.04. I hope the above content can be helpful to you and learn more. If you think the article is good, you can share it for more people to see.
