It is troublesome to reset the password when the root user's password is lost, and it is necessary to restart the machine. For security, root users' passwords must be properly configured and kept.

1. Prepare the bootable AIX installation CD or installation tape media or the backup tape of the machine, which is consistent with the current AIX system version and level of the machine, insert the CD or tape into the corresponding drive, and restart the system.

2. Make sure that the boot device of the machine is changed to CD or tape or network.

When an icon appears on the console screen or a beep is heard, press F1 repeatedly (if it is a graphical interface, press'1' if it is a character interface) until the system Management Service (SMS) menu appears, and then follow the on-screen menu prompts.

3. Determine the console

Set the current terminal as the system console by pressing F1 (or'1') and then pressing Enter.

4. Select the prompt language during installation

Select English as the prompt language by selecting 1 and then pressing Enter.

5. This step is crucial, so don't make a mistake.

1.) Start install Now With Default Setting

2.) Change/Show Installation Settings and Install

3.) Start Maintenance Mode for System Recovery

Must select "3.Start Maintenance Mode for System Recovery"

6. There are 4 options in the Maintenance interface:

1.) Access a Root Volume Group

2.) Copy a System Dumo to Removeable Media

3.) Access Advanced Maintenance Function

4.) Install From a System Backup

Should choose "1.Access a Root Volume Group"

7. Display a warning message on the next screen and select "0 Continue".

8. Select VG.

Press the number of VG, and then press enter.

9. Choose the way to access rootvg.

Two options appear on the screen:

1.) Access this volume group and start a shell

2.) Access this volume group and start a shell before mounting filesystems

You should choose "1. Access this volume group and start a shell".

10. When a command prompt appears, run the passwd command and reset the password of the root user.

Restart the system again. Run the following command: sync;sync;reboot

Failure phenomenon:

In the / etc/passwd file, the shell of the root user is modified to bash, and the system does not support bash, resulting in a Shell error and root cannot be logged in!

The default shell for root users is ksh, and when it is mistakenly changed to bash in / etc/passwd (because the system does not support bash by default), the shell,root user cannot be found when logging in.

Can be solved with single user processing!
