This article is to share with you the content of the sample analysis of the IIS 7.5 connection limit and traffic restriction module. The editor thinks it is very practical, so share it with you as a reference and follow the editor to have a look.
Option 1: use Video hosting Service (Video Hosting Service)
One way to reduce video bandwidth consumption is to use video hosting services, which are similar to YouTube or the free Microsoft Silverlight streaming service. It supports the use of other people's networks to transmit video stream content and avoids bandwidth consumption.
If you are not familiar with the Silverlight streaming service, it also provides free 10G video uploads and no more than 5T of download traffic per month (maximum support for 1.4Mbps). You can create any custom Silverlight client player application to embed video here. This means that it does not require a dedicated video player, certificate verification or mercury. In this way, you can use any user interface as a host server to integrate video into your web page.
Option 2: deploy your own server as the host
Sometimes it doesn't make sense to use video hosting services (for example, you want to use custom authentication to grant or deny access to users, or you really want to play some long video clips, or you add ads to the video). At this point, you may need to configure your own video server to complete these functions.
Two typical options for a server to transmit video are to use streaming or pre-download streaming.
The method of using streams
In methods that use streams (such as Silverlight,Windows Media Player,Flash or Real network protocols), clients connect to the server through streams. The streaming media server passes the video stream to the user for browsing, and usually can fast forward, rewind, pause or stop the playback of streaming media. The video stream automatically stops when the user closes the browser or navigates.
Windows Media Service (WMS) is Windows's free streaming service that streams videos to Media Player or cross-platform SiverLight browser clients. This is generally considered to be the most reliable service and the most effective way to support streaming on the website, and it also applies to the needs of file streams (e.g., wmv files) and live streaming (such as live Olympic sports broadcasts).
The Windows Media service is available in multiple Windows Server versions, including the latest Windows Server2008 site service version (supports 4 cpu,32G memory, IIS,ASP.NET,Sharepoint,Windows Media Services).
Pre-download mode
In this method, the client (such as Flash or Silverlight) downloads the video directly from the Web server and starts to play smoothly as soon as there is enough video traffic.
The advantage of using this approach is that it is easy to deploy on the Web server. You only need to copy or upload a video using Ftp, and the acquisition path can be bound to the video client player. No custom configuration of any Web server is required, and there is no need to install streaming services.
By keeping a few megabytes (or tens of megabytes) of unplayed video content, you can say goodbye to completely unnecessary money spent on bandwidth.
IIS 7.0Traffic limit Module
Last week, the IIS development team released the free IIS 7. 0 traffic limit module, which saves a lot of money than pre-download videos.
The traffic restriction module can easily configure bandwidth limit rules for downloading various types of multimedia content (including .WMV, .MOV, .FLV, MP3 files) from the IIS Web server.
It is said that when a file is requested, the traffic restriction module enables IIS to respond quickly, and multimedia content is initially transmitted with a large amount of traffic. There is a default rule for the encoding of Mime-type (type mapping) and bitstream files, that is, when the content with a playback time of 20 seconds is downloaded, it starts to play. Once the video client has a 20-second playback, the IIS traffic limiting module will limit the transfer rate to use the bit encoding of the file. Whether the video player or client closes or navigates to a different video, it monitors and automatically stops the rest of the file transfer when the user disconnects.
For example, if you are playing a video file the size of 35MB, the encoding rate of 500 kbps will quickly send 20 seconds of video content (20 seconds of 500kpbs encoding = 1.25MB content) to enable the video client to play, and then transmit the rest of the video only at the speed of 500kpbs (enough, thinking that the user already has a 20-second cache of content, so there will be no delay).
After a few minutes, when the user gets bored and wants to stop the video or navigate to a new page, IIS detects that the user is leaving and then stops transferring the rest of the 35m file. Because in this case, IIS only downloaded 80 seconds of all videos (users watched 60 seconds, and 20 seconds of cache), applied 5m instead of 35m of bandwidth, saved 30m of traffic, this situation occurs hundreds of times, can save thousands of dollars a day, then a year …
Download and installation of IIS 7.0Traffic restriction Mod
After the installation is complete, you can click the "Bit Rate Throttling" node in the IIS management tool.
