KubeEdge v0.2 release

KubeEdge announced an open source project on Shanghai KubeCon on November 24, 18, which aims to realize cloud collaboration, computing sinking, and smooth access to massive devices based on the container choreography and scheduling capabilities of K8S.

KubeEdge, born out of Huawei Cloud IEF service, is the first open source project in the field of edge computing with the ability to deploy in a production environment. A few days ago, the K8S IOT/Edge working group released a white paper on edge computing and used KubeEdge as the reference architecture of K8S in the IOT/Edge scenario.

The KubeEdge architecture consists of two parts, the cloud and the edge side. The cloud is responsible for the distribution of applications and configurations, while the edge side is responsible for running edge applications and managing access devices.

In v0.2, the KubeEdge team decided to open up the cloud code, so the release of KubeEdge v0.1 and v0.2 set two records respectively:

The release of KubeEdge v0.2 means that anyone can deploy a complete edge computing solution covering clouds, edges, and devices in their own environment. In addition, based on v0.1, two important components on the cloud have been added: CloudHub and EdgeController. The architecture is as follows:

Users can manage edge nodes, devices and applications in the cloud directly through the kubectl command line, and their usage habits are exactly the same as those of K8S without having to re-adapt.

Rancher releases lightweight Kubernetes distribution K3s

Recently, container management software provider Rancher Labs announced the launch of the lightweight Kubernetes distribution K3s, which is designed for R & D and operation personnel running Kubernetes in a resource-limited environment.

According to Rancher, in order to reduce the memory required to run Kubernetes, K3s focuses on changes in the following three directions:

Delete old, unnecessary code

Integrate the running packaging process

Using containerd instead of Docker as the runtime container engine

On the whole, K3s is equivalent to the tailoring and optimization of kubernetes for special scenarios such as edge computing, rather than a solution dedicated to edge computing scenarios, which may require considerable evolution and adaptation in the future.

If the failure occurs in only one server cluster, the remote disaster recovery scheme can be used to switch to another cluster as soon as possible, thus keeping the system available. Although there will still be interruptions, it can be recovered as soon as possible.

According to this model, cloud disaster recovery is also an important means to prevent availability problems in traditional environments. As an IT staff in an enterprise, you can avoid the loss caused by cloud failure as much as possible by doing the following four points on a daily basis.
