Smartphones can tell us if their owners are drunk through their accelerometers, according to research by researchers at Stanford University and the University of Pittsburgh. The researchers obtained proof of concept when they experimented with a sample of 22 participants. And smartphones can detect drunken people with 92% accuracy.

Now, previous studies have shown that the main sign of poisoning is gait wobble. We are all in this situation when we see the whole world spinning, swinging from one side to the other, trying to move forward in a straight line. As a result, the researchers used this concept to come up with the idea of using an accelerometer built into a smartphone to track individual movements. If they keep walking, they will wake up. However, if they wobble or move left and right as they walk, they will get drunk.

Now, in an experiment conducted by researchers on 22 participants, they strapped their phones to their backs to measure their movements. However, in the real world, under any circumstances, individuals will never tie their mobile phones to their backs.

To ensure that the system runs outside the controlled environment, lead researcher Brian Sufflieto (Brian Suffoletto) said they would test the system with smartphones in participants' hands or pockets in bars or crowded places.

Therefore, in the near future, smartphones may prevent users from driving when they are drunk. Therefore, it will greatly improve road safety and increase the safety of users.
