­Dustin Kirkland has just announced that Canonical has partnered with Microsoft to make the Ubuntu container run on Windows and enable Hyper-V isolation. If you've always dreamed of running your favorite Linux distribution on a Windows machine, you'll be delighted with the latest developments in Ubuntu. After announcing the good news, you will be able to run the Docker container in Windows 10 and Windows Server.

­this technology uses the Ubuntu Linux operating system as a base host, while the Docker container engine and Hyper-V virtualization technology allow Linux applications to run in Windows.

­all you need to prepare is a 64-bit x86 PC, 8GB storage, and becoming a member of the Windows Insider tester project. Dustin Kirkland, vice president of products and strategy at Ubuntu, said:

­Canonical and Microsoft work together to bring a really special experience-running the Ubuntu container as Hyper-V isolation in Windows 10 and Windows Server-you should be able to build and run it in a few minutes!

­in a recent blog, Dusting Kirkland also shared tutorials on how to deploy easily, as well as a batch of screenshots of enabling Hyper-V isolation on the Windows operating system to run the Ubuntu container.

­you can start the Ubuntu container (with Hyper-V isolation) by typing a few lines of command in Windows Powershell. So far, however, these can only be experienced on Windows 10 and Windows Server machines.
