Notebook data disk 500G, disk remaining space is getting smaller and smaller, recently started a 2T Seagate mechanical hard disk to replace the original 500G hard disk, now record the replacement hard disk matters needing attention

Background:

Notebook existing hard drives 1 ssd (128g), 1 sata (500g)

The operating system is installed on ssd, and most of the data files and software are installed on Sata disk.

Action:

1. Disk partitioning, formatting

The new disk is currently used as a data disk, using MBR disk partitions, a total of 2 partitions, ntfs format

2. Back up the data of the old disk to the new disk

Backup through the hard disk box or transfer through the third storage device, pay special attention to the program installation directory program file and program (x86) file, this directory may exist in multiple partitions of the old disk, it is recommended to back up to different partitions (the registry will be modified when the program is installed, and the path may be involved)

3. Replace the hard disk

Take apart the notebook and replace it. The time has come to test your hands-on ability. Just take it apart a few more times.

4. Boot and start

Some programs cannot be used. Check the shortcut icon properties. The path does not exist.

5. Change the partition letter of the new disk

Since the operating system is installed in ssd, the information related to the operating system has not changed, and the program cannot be used due to the change of path. It is best to make the partition path of the new disk correspond to the partition path of the old disk one by one.

An enter disk management-> Click the partition you want to change-change the drive letter and path

6. Use the previous program

Start the program, if the program path is the same as the existing disk path (partition number, path), the program can be used normally
