8K is leading a new round of technological change. Following the completion of the world's first 8K Internet live broadcast at the Yunqi Conference in Shenzhen, and at the Yunqi Conference in Hangzhou in 2018, Aliyun's top technology partners in the field of ultra-high-definition video inside and outside the United Nations completed the first demonstration of the application of 5G+8K video technology in telemedicine, and Aliyun's 8k ultra-high-definition live streaming technology also completed the transformation.

At the scene of the conference, the broadcast-grade 8K camera is responsible for capturing. After local real-time coding, the 5G network uplink the high-definition video images of the patient's eye symptoms to Ariyun's Shanghai Live broadcast Center for real-time processing. Through the ultra-low delay distribution transmission, the live video is real-time decoded and rendered by the 8K player, and finally presented clearly and exquisitely in front of the ophthalmologist of Shaw Hospital. Combined with the information exchange of remote diagnosis and treatment platform, the remote consultation of patients by experts is completed.

This is the first time that Aliyun has put an end-to-end 8K live broadcast solution, from 8K video capture to terminal playback, combined with Shaw Hospital's return screen, through the application scene of remote consultation, showing it to the public in all directions.

The resolution of 8K video is as high as 7680 × 4320. At present, the IMAX screen in domestic cinemas is 4K, that is to say, 8K is 4 times that of IMAX. In order to match the changes brought by the resolution, in this live broadcast, the bitrate is set to 120m bps, the frame rate is 60 fps, and HEVC coding is adopted, so that the video source really has the characteristics of 8K.

To ensure this true 8K LVB, Aliyun has made a number of technical improvements and optimizations on the LVB server:

Optimize the real-time transmission link with ultra-high bit rate:

The bitrate of 8K original video is 4 times that of 4K. In order to ensure the real-time performance of 8K LVB, Aliyun has extended its support for HEVC on RTMP, so that it can enjoy the high compression rate of HEVC while achieving the real-time performance of RTMP. The compressed live broadcast bit rate is still more than 100 Mbps. The combination of 5G + Aliyun VPC high-speed channel uplink and CDN downlink can ensure the stable transmission of live streaming. From Yunqi Congress to Shanghai Live broadcast Center, and then to run run Shaw Hospital, the data transmission distance is more than 400km. In the middle of the complex network environment, it has been measured that the delay of 8K live broadcast is comparable to that of ordinary Internet live broadcast. The overall experience is very clear and smooth.

Expand the real-time processing capacity of 8K LVB:

Through the optimization of Aliyun LVB service, the system supports real-time slicing and recording of 8K LVB streams, supports HLS,HTTP+FLV,RTMP and other streaming protocols, and also supports playback during 8K LVB.

Improve LVB full-link monitoring:

The whole link topology diagram of 8K can be seen in real time through full-link monitoring, and the real-time audio and video frame rate and code rate of the processing nodes in the link and the transmission link can be monitored at a glance. The large screen of the scene also displays the real-time data of audio and video frame rate and bit rate in real time. The data curve fluctuates smoothly and the live broadcast is very stable.

With the collection of content and cloud processing, how to play such a large amount of data per second video on the terminal? There are devices specializing in HEVC hardware decoding in the market, but most of them only support local files, and the cost is very high. Can 8K video be played smoothly on ordinary computers at a lower cost (a simple upgrade to existing computers)?

To this end, Aliyun developed an 8K player. Through the extreme exploration of hard decoding on the windows platform and the precise control of playback choreography, it achieved 99% utilization of hard decoding GPU, maximized the ability of hard decoding, and perfectly supported the real-time playback of 120m bps and 60 fps RTMP live streams in the conference live broadcast. And through the long-time operation of the conference site and the intelligent media booth, the performance is stable and fully compatible with the existing 8K TV.

With the precipitation of many years of technology and the training of many major events, Aliyun Video Cloud has built a super-large-scale basic platform for media processing and distribution. At present, it has 120T bandwidth storage, more than 1500 nodes, covering CDN and many edge computing nodes in 70 countries. On this platform, hundreds of millions of minutes of media are processed for customers every day, 1 billion devices are connected, and 100EB information is distributed every year.

Aliyun has been laying out and actively developing 8K ecology, promoting the formulation of 8K industry chain standards, and accelerating the landing of 8K video service applications.
