Tim Cook, Apple's chief executive, said that if apps could be installed from third-party sources, new rules proposed in the US to regulate the mobile app market could endanger the privacy of iPhone users.

"if we are forced to allow unauthenticated applications on iPhone, the unintended consequences could be severe. Data collection companies will be able to bypass our privacy policy and follow our users again against their will," Mr. Cook said in a speech at the Global Privacy Summit in Washington.

Authorities around the world are seeking to adjust the policies of the iPhone App Store. Is preparing to pass the Digital Markets Act (DMA), under which the official App Store will no longer be the only source of software in Apple's device ecosystem, and the company will lose its exclusive ability to charge commission on every transaction.

"We think smartphone owners should have the freedom to choose how to use it. This freedom includes the ability to connect to alternative application sources. With DMA, smartphone users can still enjoy the secure and reliable services provided by default in the App Store. In addition, if this is the user's choice, DMA will allow smartphone owners to connect to other secure app stores; the committee commented on the initiative on behalf of Johannes Bahrke.

The European Parliament has not yet put the draft DMA to the vote; however, we hope that there will be no difficulties in its adoption. Member States will have the opportunity to explain their requirements; they will decide on their own in accordance with national legislation.
