­Bing image search characteristics

Beijing, May 3 (Xinhua)-- Microsoft updated its iOS Bing search app on Monday, local time, with a new feature that allows users to search using photos taken by iPhone or photos selected from photo albums, according to the Wall Street Journal online edition. This is another time for Microsoft to add useful and interesting new features to iPhone rather than its Windows Phone.

­this feature is not only easy to use but also quite fast. After the user opens the Bing app, click the magnifying glass icon on the app's home screen, then click the camera icon to take a picture, and Bing will return a similar picture. However, this feature is not perfect, and sometimes it is not the answer to the question.

A Microsoft spokesman did not disclose whether Bing's feature will be available on Windows Phone or Android devices.

­Google's iOS version of the search app does not provide reverse image search features and shut down the Google Goggles image recognition app in 2014. The usefulness of taking photos and then searching for similar or related images is controversial.

­Amazon's application of reverse image search is probably the most meaningful: in Amazon's iPhone and Android shopping apps, users can take pictures of objects such as paper towels, mobile phones, books, and so on.

Despite the rapid growth of iOS and Android, Microsoft's market share of mobile operating systems fell to 1.1 per cent at the end of last year, according to Gartner, a market research firm. (compiler / Frost Leaf)
