1. At present, the HP EVA storage used in the production system has been expanded to the state of full configuration. At present, the number of disks is 96 disks, which can no longer be expanded horizontally. However, with the growth of business data and the development of new services, how to meet the space demand of the new data has become a potential problem.

two。 The storage currently used can not meet the needs of performance growth, and the online IO performance of the new generation system has become a bottleneck restricting business development, so there is an urgent need to improve IO performance.

3. Hewlett-Packard EVA series storage 2013 is the last year of the product sales period, HP manufacturers will no longer sell EVA series storage from 2014, and the late technical support for EVA series storage will also be greatly reduced. Taking into account the stability of storage and other factors, it is also necessary to replace the new generation of storage.

Product positioning

After market research and pre-testing, we finally chose HP 3PAR 7400, a mid-range product of HP 3PAR storage, which is mainly based on the following:

1. Capacity requirement, initial capacity requirement is 50TB, and the physical disk is 2.5in 600GB 10K disk, with a total of 96 pieces

two。 Performance requirements, which require IOPS read performance to exceed 100000 and write performance to exceed 10,000. This requirement mainly comes from business performance requirements, rather than performance data provided by SPC.

3. The stability and security of data migration, due to the company's business characteristics and short downtime window, require that the basic performance requirements of data migration can migrate more data than 1TB per hour.

4. Backup performance requirements to support storage-level snapshots

5. Virtual cloud platform construction requirements, support VMware VAAI, can be unified management

6. The disaster recovery system of two places and three centers is established, and the storage system supports synchronous replication of dual centers, and the third center supports asynchronous replication.

Basic configuration and function

HP 3PAR supports disk arrays to change RAID levels online without affecting business.

Use of hot spares:

Test scenario: after the simulation is unplugged, the system uses spare space to copy the data blocks on the bad disk. HP 3PAR can satisfy this kind of scenario.

LUN capacity expansion:

3PAR can expand the LUN size, but can not reduce it; when expanding the LUN size, it is in line with the expected results.

Multipath MPIO testing:

Unplug a controller host port service cable, and the service is not interrupted.

Controller ACTIVE-ACTIVE:

The traffic of the four controllers is balanced, and the number of IO is roughly the same.

Volume Snapshot feature:

3PAR storage has volume snapshot capabilities and can be rolled back to a snapshot point in time

Volume copy feature:

3PAR has volume copy function and reliable data consistency.

Performance verification of disaster tolerance

Test case:

Using Vdbench testing software to test the performance in the actual disaster recovery environment

Environmental requirements for performance testing

1) the test tool uses Vdbench to read and write to bare devices.

2) the testing press and network environment are not required in detail, and the principle is that the press and network environment do not become the bottleneck of performance testing.

3) the LUN size of the disk array for performance testing should be more than twice the cache capacity of the disk array.

Maximum IOPS / bandwidth test

Test content: test the maximum IOPS of random read, random write, sequential read and sequential write when cache is turned off (if it can be turned off) and on

Test conclusion: it can be seen from the detailed results that, except for the random write scenario, the disk can still provide a response time less than 9ms when the workload is large, and the CPU idle rate of DL380 is lower.

Mixed read-write IOPS and bandwidth testing

Test content: test the order, random IOPS, bandwidth, read-write ratio and block size settings under the RAID5 level as shown in the following table (this test case enables cache)

Test conclusion: when the read ratio is 10%, the disk response time is longer, and other scenarios generally do not exceed the 15ms.

Data migration test

HP EVA to 3PAR StoreServ Online Import software can realize the migration from EVA storage system to 3APR storage system. Migrated objects include Virtual Disk and host configuration information for EVA.

HP 3PAR supports online migration of windows and linux in this migration solution, and business applications are basically unaware of the pressure.

From the test results, the migration of 1.2TB data takes about 42 minutes, from the bottleneck analysis is mainly used for EVA storage IO performance is insufficient, rather than HP 3PAR problems.
