On September 27, 2018, the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) announced that it had further improved the availability of the Kubernetes1.12 version. The biggest highlight of Kubernetes1.12 is that the function of TLS Bootstrapping is more stable.

Since the release of Kubernetes 1.4 in 2016, the TLS Bootstrapping development team has been committed to improving cloud security capabilities. Kubernetes was born on June 6, 2014, and the whole development process is only four years, equivalent to half of the time spent on security capability development. What took you so long?

"Security issues are very complex, such as TLS bootstrap programs, which must be effectively authenticated to communicate with apiserver. If there are more nodes, it is very cumbersome to sign a separate certificate for each node." Tim Pepper, a senior engineer, thinks it makes sense for Kubernetes to spend more time on safety.

To put it simply, Kubernetes is an important container choreography technology, which can manage docker containers efficiently on the scale of the cluster.

Kubernetes, launched by the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF), experienced three iterations in 2018. On March 26th, 2018, the Kubernetes1.10 version was launched; on June 27th, 2018, the Kubernetes1.11 version was launched. Kubernetes 1.12 is the third and most important version.

Through the TLS boot function, the Kubernetes component (Kubelet) can request and obtain transport layer security (TLS) certificates, and then join the TLS secure cluster. Any feature of Kubernetes has to go through a sufficiently mature process to ensure the stability of users in a production environment. For example, in previous versions of Kubernetes, an external kubectl authentication credential program (alpha) had been introduced, but alpha had to go through a gradual upgrade process before it could be put into use.

The most important feature of Kubernetes 1.12 is its strong stability. Includes support for the virtual machine scaling set (VMSS) feature of Microsoft Azure automatic scaling. VMSS allows users to create scalable Kubernetes node based on their needs. At first, Kubernetes was developed in the Linux environment, and later added support for Microsoft Azure and Windows.

In addition to stability, other features of Kubernetes 1.12 are also of concern. For example: Taints in the scheduling algorithm. Previously, Kubernetes only scheduled basic functions based on CPU and memory; in the new features of Taints, cluster operators can schedule required functions without writing scheduling code. In addition, the Topology function is also approaching maturity. The new Topology beta version feature is different from the ConfigMap dynamic configuration feature deployed in Kubernetes version 1.11, and can better realize the storage of different types of enterprises. Kubernetes 1.12 also introduces a number of alpha features, including new RuntimeClass resources.

All in all, Kubernetes 1.12 is more promising than the previous version.
