Despite years of complaints from loyal users, Samsung insists on combining the international version of its flagship product with the Exynos chipset instead of using excellent Snapdragon products.

The Galaxy Note 20 series will follow this strategy, but to avoid criticism, Samsung is said to be developing a new chipset that could be more powerful than Snapdragon 865.

Exynos 992 may be faster than Snapdragon 865.

The latest report from ZDNet Korea (via SamMobile) shows that Samsung is developing an upgraded chipset called Exynos 992. The chipset should be released later this summer (possibly in early August) and then make its debut in the much anticipated Galaxy Note 20 series.

It is reported that the unreleased system on Chip (SoC) is based on the new 6 nm manufacturing process. This is not as advanced as the 5 nm technology used by Apple and Huawei later this year, but it will still be a popular upgrade.

The built-in Exynos 990s and Snapdragon 865s of the Galaxy S20 are based on the aging 7nm process. This means that Exynos 992 should be more energy efficient than both.

ZDNet Korea believes that the Exynos 992 will also be 1-3% faster than the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865, which in turn means that it will provide a greater performance improvement than the inferior Exynos 990 chipset currently in use.

Samsung is obviously confident in the next generation of chipsets, so it is possible to switch to Exynos power in South Korea. The Seoul-based giant has been installing Exynos chipsets at its flagship stores in the region, but decided to pair the Galaxy S20 with Snapdragon 865.

The decision reportedly humiliated the Exynos team because South Korea is their domestic market, but the latest news suggests that the controversial change may be temporary.

In addition to the above internal changes, the Galaxy Note 20 series is expected to be the improved Galaxy S20 series to a large extent. The standard appearance of Galaxy Note 20 should be based on Galaxy S20 Ultra,Galaxy Note 20 should be based on Galaxy S20.

Buyers can expect to find a powerful camera system in the back, which is standard on 5G networks. The main difference on paper is the addition of S Pen and slightly smaller batteries.

As for the design, I want the Galaxy Note 20 device to look more like a rectangular Galaxy S20 phone. As a result, an infinite display with a central perforation and an extremely thin frame may appear.

Samsung also reduced the edge curvature of the Galaxy S20 earlier this year, so it can do the same with the Galaxy Note 20. For most people, this is a welcome change, although especially for S Pen stylus users.

Finally, the back of both smartphones will be equipped with a large rectangular camera module. This will replace the widely acclaimed design of Galaxy Note 10.
