Editor to share with you how to set / 3GB startup switch in Windows, I believe most people do not know much about it, so share this article for your reference, I hope you can learn a lot after reading this article, let's go to know it!
Windows Server 2003 includes support for startup switches so that you can adjust memory usage and memory address space allocation. Regardless of the amount of physical memory on the system, Windows uses a virtual address space of 4 GB, where 2 GB is allocated to user-mode processes (such as applications) and 2 GB is allocated to kernel-mode processes (such as operating systems and kernel-mode drivers). In systems with physical memory equal to or greater than 1 GB, you can use the above two startup switches to allocate more memory to the application (3 GB) and less memory to the operating system (1 GB). The additional virtual address space helps to reduce the number of memory fragments generated in the virtual address space of the Exchange information storage process.
The / 3GB switch can be used to implement this allocation change. This switch is entered in the boot.ini file of the system and takes effect after reboot.
Note:
The / 3GB switch is supported only in the following operating systems:
Windows 2000 Advanced Server
Windows 2000 Datacenter Server
Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition
Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition
Windows Server 2003 Datacenter version
Win2003 setup steps:
Right-click my computer, and then select Properties. The system Properties dialog box appears.
Click the Advanced tab.
In the Startup and recovery area, click Settings. The Startup and recovery dialog box appears.
In the system Startup area, click Edit. This opens the Windows boot.ini file in notepad.
In the [Operating Systems] section, add the following switch to the end of the startup command line that contains the / fastdetect switch: / 3GB
Save your changes and close notepad.
Click OK twice, close the open dialog box, and then restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
Win2000 setup steps:
In Windows Explorer, navigate to the system partition. This partition stores hardware-specific Windows files, such as Boot.ini and NTLDR.
If you do not see the Boot.ini file, it may be because the folder option is set to hide protected operating system files. If this is the case, in the Explorer window, click tools, click folder options, and then click View. Clear the hide protected operating system files (recommended) check box. When prompted, click Yes.
After you see the Boot.ini file in Explorer, right-click the file, click Open with, and then click notepad to open the file.
Add the / 3GB switch to the end of the line starting with "multi" in the [Operating Systems] section.
Save your changes and close notepad.
Restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
