Google now warns users that if their accounts are suspected of being the target of supporting attacks, it does not share details on how to identify such malicious activity.

"We have been watching malicious activity on our system, especially third-party attempts to log into user accounts without authorization," Eric Grosse, Google's vice president of security engineering, said in a blog post on Tuesday.

"when we know the specific information, whether it comes directly from users or from our own monitoring, we will display clear warning signals and set up additional roadblocks to stop these bad guys."

For example, if a user's account is suspected of being the target of such a malicious attack, he will see a warning: "We think a supported attacker may try to attack your account or computer."

Grosse pointed out that the warning is to remind users that his account may be the target of the attack, but this does not mean that his account has been hijacked, nor does it mean that Google's internal system has been compromised by the attack.

It did not elaborate on how the company knew the attacks might have been government-funded. Instead, he shared that Google's detailed analysis and victim reports can strongly demonstrate or support group participation.

Last year, Google accused the government of interfering with its Gmail service. A spokesman said the government's congestion appeared to be a problem with its Internet mail service.
